The Lamar County Trojans had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.9 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 on Saturday. They breezed by Furlow Charter School on the road to the tune of 81-6. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Lamar County has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lamar County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makayla Watts, who scored 18 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Watts scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bleu Leverett, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Lamar County's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Furlow Charter School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-10.
Lamar County and Temple will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Temple is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Furlow Charter School, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crisp Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
