It was a good run, but the Cheylin Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to Cheyenne Wells on the road by a decisive 48-32 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cheylin has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Cheylin still got an impressive performance from Logan McCarty, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. McCarty scored a full 37.5% of Cheylin's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Pablo Bermudez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Cheylin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Cheyenne Wells got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Corey Hill out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Hill has scored at least 25% of Cheyenne Wells' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Noe, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Cheylin's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Cheyenne Wells, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Cheylin will head out on the road to face off against Triplains/Brewster at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Triplains/Brewster focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Tuesday. Cheyenne Wells will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on McClave at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully McClave focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
