Two dominant guards in Josh Magno and Aaron Hernandez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Walnut Mustangs are on the road again on Monday and play against the Workman Lobos at 6:00 p.m. on December 18th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Walnut didn't have too much trouble with Wilson on the road as they won 54-36. Given Walnut's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Wilson is ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Myles Wainwright, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. Nathan Yen was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Workman had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 66-41 margin over Garden Grove. Considering Workman has won four contests by more than 23 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hernandez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 13 steals. The matchup was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Luis Saenz, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Walnut pushed their record up to 7-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23.67 points. As for Workman, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Walnut have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Workman struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 33.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
