The Treasure Coast Titans will challenge the Martin County Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Treasure Coast and Central, and Central kept the tradition alive. The Titans fell just short of the Cobras by a score of 2-1 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Titans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hunter Wilson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.
Meanwhile, Martin County never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Master's Academy with a sharp 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Cody Bennin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, John Thornton was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stone Preston, who scored three runs and stole four bases.
Martin County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Treasure Coast now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Martin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Treasure Coast has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
