Springstead is 3-0 against Lecanto since October of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Springstead Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Lecanto Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
After a string of three wins, Springstead's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 22-7 bruising from Haines City. Having soared to a lofty 37 points in the game before, Springstead couldn't push the score so high this time.
Even if they lost, Springstead's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Michael Rizzuto and his two sacks.
Lecanto never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Citrus last Thursday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 42-6 victory over the Hurricanes. Considering Lecanto has won four matches by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lecanto's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tez Joseph, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Colton McNeely also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Haines City's victory bumped their season record to 5-4 while Springstead's defeat dropped theirs to 6-3.
Springstead strolled past Lecanto in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 14-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springstead since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
