The Markesan Hornets will challenge the Almond-Bancroft Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Markesan will be strutting in after a victory while Almond-Bancroft will be coming in after a loss.
Markesan took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Cambria-Friesland 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won three in a row.
Markesan wouldn't go down easily and took Cambria-Friesland into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 15-8.

Among those leading the charge was Lettie Heiling, who had nine digs and four aces. That's the most digs she has posted over her last 14 matchups. Greylyn Plath also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Markesan was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Almond-Bancroft didn't have quite enough to beat Pittsville on Tuesday and fell 3-2. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Almond-Bancroft sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-4.
Almond-Bancroft's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-14. As for Markesan, their victory bumped their record up to 6-16.
