After flying high against the Columbus Blue Devils last Wednesday, the Dougherty Trojans came back down to earth. Dougherty had to suffer through a rough 74-44 loss at the hands of Monroe. Dougherty has not had much luck with Monroe recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Dougherty lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jatiana Chambers, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Chambers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Teaylia Hawkins was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Monroe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kie'Aundria Acree out in front who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Mckinzy, who scored 25 points along with five assists.
Dougherty's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Monroe, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Dougherty will face off against Lee County at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bayyinah Citlak and Chambers. As for Monroe, they will square off against Early County at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Early County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
