It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fayetteville had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over the Knippa Crushers. Considering the Lions have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Kole Schmitt made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Chance Konvicka looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Lawson Fritsch was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Kandon Kaspar was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and three runs.
Fayetteville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knippa only posted an OBP of .130.
Fayetteville's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Knippa, they moved to 11-13 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Fayetteville nor the Crushers have any future games scheduled.
