DJ Gibson was the offensive standout of the match as he went 6 of 7 on his way to 16 points. Those 16 points gave him a new career-high. Church was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 11 points and five rebounds.
Tampa Prep has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-64 heartbreaker at the hands of Discovery.
Clearwater Central Catholic will need focus on slowing down Bivens, one of several Tampa Prep players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Myheir Session, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Tampa Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive contests.
Clearwater Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.9 points per game. As for Tampa Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Clearwater Central Catholic and Tampa Prep are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Clearwater Central Catholic hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.8 points per game. However, it's not like Tampa Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Clearwater Central Catholic came up short against Tampa Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 69-58. Thankfully for Clearwater Central Catholic, Chandler White Brooks (who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
