Liberty hasn't had much luck against California recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions will take on the Grizzlies at 1:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Liberty not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 14, 2024. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Dublin an 8-0 shutout. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Kate Skinner
03/04/25 @ Granada | 6 |
04/03/25 vs Castro Valley | 6 |
02/25/25 vs Tracy | 7 |
03/03/25 vs East Union | 10 |
03/06/25 @ San Ramon Valley | 12 |
The result came thanks to Kate Skinner's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Liberty let Taylor Jennings and Isabella Rice run wild. Jennings went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Rice went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Jennings has posted since back in May of 2024. Hailey Graham also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Liberty lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dublin didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, California won against Carondelet on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Grizzlies blew past Foothill 10-2. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Audrey Cotton looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jayda Crosby was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Reese Stiner, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Liberty pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for California, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.
Liberty couldn't quite get it done against California when the teams last played back in March of 2022 as they fell 6-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
