The Notre Dame Green Knights will take on the Wilbur Cross Governors at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilbur Cross took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Notre Dame, who comes in off a win.
Notre Dame barely beat Cheshire the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Green Knights were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Rams on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Notre Dame got a great performance from Luca Stavrevski as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Nate Marczak was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Jackson Burr was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheshire only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Wilbur Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-2 to Darien, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Wilbur Cross saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was William Santiago, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Wilbur Cross' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Notre Dame, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wilbur Cross struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Notre Dame took their win against Wilbur Cross in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Green Knights repeat their success, or do the Governors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
