Two dominant backs in Griffin Schumacher and Luke Fischer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs will head out on the road to face off against the Larned Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Thomas More Prep-Marian is ranked 117th, while Larned is ranked 122nd).
Last Friday, Thomas More Prep-Marian came up short against Beloit and fell 14-6. Thomas More Prep-Marian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last matchup, Larned made sure to put some points up on the board against Lakin on Friday. Larned secured a 46-40 W over Lakin.
Fischer was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Shaver, who threw for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
With Thomas More Prep-Marian's defeat and Beloit's win, both teams now sport identical 4-4 records.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Thomas More Prep-Marian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 185.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Larned struggles in that department as they've been even better at 258.5 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
