Denver West pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Manual. The loss put an end to Denver West's undefeated start to the season.
Jayden Volion put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jacob Dallas was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Far Northeast W, who are still winless after their 12th match. They suffered a tough 70-50 defeat at the hands of DSST: Montview on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Far Northeast W can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while DSST: Montview is ranked 36th).
The losing side was boosted by Devan Womley, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Griffin-Cobbs, who scored 13 points.
Denver West's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-1. As for Far Northeast W, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-12.
Denver West couldn't quite finish off Far Northeast W in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 73-70. Thankfully for Denver West, Kyree Hunt (who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
