After flying high against the Palmetto Ridge Bears last Wednesday, the Barron Collier Cougars came back down to earth. Barron Collier took a 20-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gulf Coast. Having soared to a lofty 65 points in the game before, Barron Collier couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the defeat, Barron Collier saw an underclassman step up: bella Stephens scored eight points along with five rebounds. Stephens continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
Leading Gulf Coast to victory were Alex Mcdonough and Lilly Fultz. Mcdonough scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Fultz scored ten points along with three steals. Mcdonough is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Pasquarello, who scored two points along with four steals.
Barron Collier's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Gulf Coast, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.
Barron Collier won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against LaBelle at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. LaBelle will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Gulf Coast, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Fort Myers will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while Gulf Coast is ranked 95th).
