On Wednesday, the Scammon Bay Eagles faced the Nelson Island Islanders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Scammon Bay enjoyed a cozy 99-80 win over Nelson Island. Winning may never get old, but Scammon Bay sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Scammon Bay was led to victory by Josiah Sundown and Stewie Sundown. Sundown scored 26 points, while Sundown scored 31 points. Sundown has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Aiden George was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Nelson Island lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brennan Lincoln. Despite the final result, he scored 36 points along with three steals. That was a full 45% of Nelson Island's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Angaiak, who scored 20 points.
Scammon Bay's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Nelson Island, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scammon Bay will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Chevak at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Chevak has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 204 points over their last three matchups. As for Nelson Island, they will head out on the road to face off against Chaputnguak at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
