Waynesboro hasn't had much luck against Spotswood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Little Giants will face off against the Trailblazers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waynesboro took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Wilson Memorial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Little Giants came out on top in a nail-biter against the Green Hornets on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4.

Haden Morris was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Morris was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Waynesboro: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 7-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, Casey Breeden and Aidan White did most of the damage at the plate: Breeden went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while White went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases White has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Mikey Shifflett, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Spotswood entered their tilt with William Monroe on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 12-2 win. The Trailblazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Andrew O'Brian, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Jackson Baugher also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Spotswood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive games.
Spotswood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Waynesboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Waynesboro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spotswood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Waynesboro suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Spotswood when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Little Giants avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
