The Morristown Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to square off against the Tri Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Tri is hoping to do what Western Boone couldn't on Saturday: put an end to Morristown's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Morristown came out on top against Western Boone by a score of 57-48. With that victory, the Yellow Jackets brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Morristown relied on the efforts of Kellen Crim, who posted 20 points, and Colin Kieninger, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Brayden Keithley was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tri was able to grind out a solid win over Union City last Saturday, taking the game 57-50. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the Indians are ranked 401st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tri's win came from a few key players Morristown will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bryant Cornelius, who put up 18 points and four steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Engle, who had 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Tri was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Morristown pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Tri, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Morristown has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 21.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Tri struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Morristown was taken down by Tri 66-39 in their previous matchup back in February. Thankfully for Morristown, Josiah Cox (who shot 5-for-8 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
