Basketball Recap: Summit Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Reagan Morgan and Vanessa Mansfield

After flying high against Providence Hall last Tuesday, Summit Academy came back down to earth. The Summit Academy Bears fell 46-33 to the Layton Christian Academy Eagles on Thursday. The Bears were probably out for revenge after losing 52-33 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Summit Academy had strong showings from Vanessa Mansfield, who posted seven points and five boards, and Reagan Morgan, who put up eight points. Those five rebounds gave Mansfield a new career-high.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Layton Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Fabiana Lopez, who went 6 of 10 en route to 14 points and six steals. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ruby Knight-Paris, who earned 11 points and eight boards.

Summit Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Layton Christian Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Academy will head out to challenge Hillcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summit Academy is facing Hillcrest at the right time seeing as Hillcrest is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Layton Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Judge Memorial Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
