On Saturday, the Alton Redbirds faced the Breese Central Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Alton walked away with a 57-46 victory over Breese Central. Winning may never get old, but Alton sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Alton found their leader in underclassman Kaylea Lacey, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lacey has scored all season. Kiyoko Proctor was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists.
Alton's win bumped their record up to 23-1. As for Breese Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-3.
Alton will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against East St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. East St. Louis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Alton is ranked fourth). As for Breese Central, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Greenville at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Greenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
