Softball Recap: Willits Has No Trouble Against Laytonville

Willits won the last time they faced Laytonville and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 17-2 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Lisa Arkelian made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Chloe Wright was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Addie Jones was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Willits was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Willits pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Laytonville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
