The Beaver Beavers will square off against the Grand County Red Devils at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. Beaver is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Beaver proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against South Sevier, sneaking past 5-4.
Lily Wright and Jerzee Beaumont did most of the damage at the plate: Wright went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Beaumont went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Wright has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Grand County walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Eagles on Saturday. Considering the Red Devils have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Byrd was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Byrd was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaiya Moore was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Danika Hirschfeld was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Grand County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 10-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Beaver has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Grand County, their victory bumped their record up to 17-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Beaver hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Grand County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Beaver got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Grand County by a conclusive 13-5 score. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
