A well-balanced attack led the 21st Century Charter Cougars over the Calumet Christian Patriots in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that 21st Century Charter blew Calumet Christian out of the water with a 79-43 final score. Given 21st Century Charter's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Calumet Christian is ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
21st Century Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Terrence Hayes out in front who scored 22 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hayes posted eight or more assists. Elijah Musaddiq was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Calumet Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brad Nymeyer, who scored 13 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolton Foutz, who scored five points.
Calumet Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
21st Century Charter is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Calumet Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-14.
21st Century Charter won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Bend Career Academy at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. South Bend Career Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Calumet Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Calumet New Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Calumet New Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Tuesday.
