The Lathrop Mules''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 42-28 bruising from Trenton. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lathrop in their matchups with Trenton: they've now lost three in a row.
Lathrop's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Crain, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
Trenton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Hughs out in front who rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Gabe Novak was another key contributor, rushing for 214 yards and a touchdown.
Lathrop's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 East Buchanan and 7-3 Mid-Buchanan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64% over those games). As for Trenton, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Lathrop does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Trenton will face off against Mid-Buchanan at TBD on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Mid-Buchanan is ranked 140th, while Trenton is ranked 145th).
