If the White Station Spartans were feeling good off their 55-10 takedown of the Kingsbury Falcons last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. White Station took a 51-36 bruising from Memphis East on Wednesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for White Station in their matchups with Memphis East: they've now lost three in a row.
White Station lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lily Pruitt, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pruitt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Walker, who scored nine points.
White Station struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Memphis East pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Memphis East to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristan Spearman, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. Spearman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Register, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
White Station's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-11. As for Memphis East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
White Station will head out on the road to challenge Memphis Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Memphis Central will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Memphis East, Memphis East and Whitehaven will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Whitehaven sitting on seven straight victories and Memphis East on three.
