Basketball Recap: Floydada Piles Up the Points Against Tahoka

Floydada entered their tilt with Tahoka on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 90-45 win over the Tahoka Bulldogs. With the Whirlwinds ahead 49-27 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Floydada's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braun Hobbs led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Hobbs' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Valadez, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Floydada was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tahoka only racked up ten assists.

When it comes to explaining why Tahoka lost, don't look at Brogan Stone. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 14 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Watt, who posted nine points along with six boards and three steals.

Floydada pushed their record up to 18-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 92.3 points per game. As for Tahoka, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, Floydada and Tahoka will both be playing New Home the next time they take the court. Tahoka will host New Home at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Floydada will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
