Platte Canyon has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Middle Park Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Platte Canyon's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Last Saturday, Platte Canyon got themselves on the board against Denver Christian, but Denver Christian never followed suit. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 32-0 victory over the Thunder. The result was nothing new for Platte Canyon, who have now won six games by 25 points or more so far this season.
Platte Canyon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamron Skouge, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 24 yards and a touchdown. Skouge was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. Sam Patterson also helped out as he racked up 132 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Middle Park fell victim to Strasburg's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 52-0 loss at the hands of the Indians. Having soared to a lofty 48 points in the game before, Middle Park couldn't push the score so high this time.
Platte Canyon's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 The Pinnacle and 2-5 Denver Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.1% over those games). Middle Park has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Platte Canyon came up short against Middle Park when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 28-22. Can Platte Canyon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
