Baseball Recap: Weslaco Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

While Weslaco put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Edinburg North. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Cougars. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Isaiah Garza made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two triples, four RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Matt Cortez looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Gael Villareal was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Toby Perez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Weslaco was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edinburg North only posted a batting average of .200.

Weslaco's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 13-6-1. As for Edinburg North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-19 record this season.

Weslaco will have a chance to go back-to-back against Edinburg North: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
