The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles were the 65-60 winner over the Green Canyon Wolves when they last played one another back in December of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. Maple Mountain was the victim of a tough 65-43 defeat at the hands of Green Canyon on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Maple Mountain has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Maple Mountain lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matt Peterson. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Elijah Liddiard was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Layker Ward was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points for Green Canyon. That's the first time this season that Ward scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Anderson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Maple Mountain are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3. As for Green Canyon, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Maple Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Snow Canyon at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Snow Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday. Green Canyon's road trip will continue as they head out to face Payson at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th. Payson is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 64.6 points per game.
