After a string of seven wins, the Smoky Hill Buffaloes's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Arapahoe 62-58. Smoky Hill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Arapahoe apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Smoky Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carter Basquez, who scored 13 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Sylla, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Arapahoe got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua Acker out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rifky Sedhom, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Smoky Hill's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4. As for Arapahoe, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smoky Hill will challenge Overland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Overland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 186 points over their last three matches. As for Arapahoe, they will head out on the road to square off against Cherokee Trail at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Cherokee Trail focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday.
