The Newton Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Farina South Central Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Newton will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
While Newton's victory against Lawrenceville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles skirted past the Indians 5-3.

Carson Barthelme spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newton is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Quincy Fulton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Farina South Central lost a heartbreaker to Salem when they met back in May of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The Cougars fell 7-2 to the Wildcats. The Cougars have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Callaway SSmith was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Kaiden Harrell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Newton pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Farina South Central, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Newton skirted past Farina South Central 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
