The Colonial Grenadiers entered their tilt with the Apopka Blue Darters with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. Colonial took their game at home on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 67-19 victory over Apopka. Colonial's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Colonial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Destinie Gordon led the charge by scoring 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gordon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmynne Gibson, who scored 16 points.
Apopka's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mazaiah Marc, who scored seven points along with two steals, and Anabela Hart who scored no points. That was a full 36.8% of Apopka's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Apopka struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Colonial pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Colonial's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Apopka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.
Colonial the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Ocoee at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Ocoee is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Apopka, they will head out on the road to challenge West Orange at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Orange presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Apopka in Florida (West Orange is ranked 93rd, while Apopka is ranked 253rd).
