The Rio Grande Ravens's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Los Lunas, falling 70-40. While losing is never fun, Rio Grande can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Tigers are ranked 14th).
Despite the loss, Rio Grande had strong showings from Santiago Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Eliseo Velasquez, who scored 13 points. That was a full 35% of Rio Grande's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rio Grande's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Los Lunas, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.
Rio Grande will head out on the road to square off against the Demons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Los Lunas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Albuquerque knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Tigers like a good challenge.
