The Shorewood Stormrays will challenge the Shorecrest Scots at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Shorewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Shorewood had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Lynnwood on Friday. The Stormrays blew past the Royals 13-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Stormrays considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Emma Kellum and Emily Scott were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kellum pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Scott tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Kellum scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Scott scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Alyssa Carver was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Charlotte Copacino was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Shorecrest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 13-3 to Archbishop Murphy. That's two games in a row now that the Scots have lost by exactly ten runs.
Shorecrest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Fernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Riu Hanrahan, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Shorewood's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-4. As for Shorecrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shorewood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Shorecrest struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shorewood came out on top in a nail-biter against Shorecrest in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Stormrays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
