West Haven added to the longest winning streak in Southern Connecticut Division I - East this week by beating Wilbur Cross, 50-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Blue Devils.
The Governors fell to West Haven 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Stevie Swinson ran for 50 yards in the defeat.
Nick van Dell put up the best numbers through the air as Hand fell to Xavier. He finished with a total of 16 completions for 212 yards and 1 touchdown. Van Dell's favorite target this week was Josh DeMartino, who caught 3 passes for 117 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Tigers' van Dell and Tom Wilson have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback van Dell has thrown for 1,538 yards this season, while Wilson has 37 catches for 566 yards. John Acquavita's team's Swinson leads the league in rushing yards with 1,100.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Ed McCarthy's team and Hand. The Blue Devils enters the game ranked fourth in the state, while Steven Filippone's team ranks 11th.
West Haven's Ervin Philips needs only 16 yards against the Tigers next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Philips has rushed for 984 yards on 135 carries so far this year.
There should be lots of points scored when the Blue Devils and Hand face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, West Haven comes in having scored 288 this season, while the Tigers have scored 245. The Blue Devils scored 50 points last week as they beat the Governors.
