The Hempstead Tigers will be home for the holidays to greet the Freeport Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hempstead knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Freeport likes a good challenge.
Hempstead pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Anthony's.
Meanwhile, Freeport was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 39-33 to Uniondale.
Defeat or not, Freeport got some senior leadership from Jevon Saul who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks and Jaylen Jean-Louis who scored eight points. Saul also grabbed two steals for the first time this season.
Even though they lost, Freeport were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Hempstead now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Hempstead strolled past Freeport when the teams last played back in January by a score of 71-57. Does Hempstead have another victory up their sleeve, or will Freeport turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
