4A Southwestern recap Oct. 23, 2012
Butler extended the longest winning streak in 4A Southwestern this week by beating South Mecklenburg, 58-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Independence's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jason Connella has thrown for 1676 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, while Dequan Barnes has 41 catches for 843 yards. Isiah Robinson leads the league in rushing with 1163 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Butler and Independence. Brian Hales' team enters the game ranked first in the state, while the Patriots ranks 15th.
Two of the top units in 4A Southwestern will face off this week when Independence takes on the Bulldogs. Bill Geiler's team's offense has racked up 389 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Butler has allowed only 45 on the year.
Jaquavion Alexander of the Myers Park is only 81 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Alexander has rushed for 919 yards on 141 carries so far this year.
The Bulldogs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 58 points on the Sabres.
