The Athens Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Selinsgrove Seals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Athens barely beat Cowanesque Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats blew past the Indians 12-0 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Connor Davidson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Davidson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Athens let Brady Flynn and Brendan Cooke run wild. Flynn went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Cooke went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run. Duncan Thetga was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, Selinsgrove can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Shikellamy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Seals have posted since April 2nd.
Selinsgrove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Romig, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Athens' record is now 14-2. As for Selinsgrove, their record now sits at 4-12.
