They put the hurt on UIC College Prep with a sharp 37-11 victory on Wednesday. Given ITW David Speer Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while UIC College Prep is ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
ITW David Speer Academy was led to victory by Yarilyn Figueroa and Roshaunda Wilson. Figueroa scored six points along with nine steals, while Wilson scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Miabella Collazo was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, UIC College Prep still got an impressive performance from Aliyah Benson, who scored seven points. Benson scored a full 63.6% of UIC College Prep's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
ITW David Speer Academy pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for UIC College Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. ITW David Speer Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Johnson at 5:30 p.m. on December 21st. UIC College Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Butler at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
