The East St. Louis Flyers pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Morton. East St. Louis has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
East St. Louis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Robert McCline, who scored 21 points. McCline scored a full 36.2% of East St. Louis' points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Derrion Enlow was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine assists.
East St. Louis' loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-5. As for Morton, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East St. Louis will take on Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Edwardsville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests. As for Morton, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. Centennial will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Morton is ranked 20th).
