The Cape Fear Colts had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 23-12 victory over South View. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cape Fear also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Cape Fear got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was King Faison out in front who rushed for 129 yards on only 13 carries. Faison was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Melvin, who picked up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cape Fear's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Marquan Footman and his two sacks.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Cape Fear, adding 11 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Francisco Rodriguez: he added nine points with three field goals, and another two kicking extra points.
Cape Fear's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Douglas Byrd and 1-8 Lumberton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.1% over those games). As for South View, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.
Cape Fear will head out on the road to face off against Gray's Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gray's Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Cape Fear is ranked 69th). As for South View, they will be playing at home against Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
