Basketball Recap: Preston Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Enloe over Cardinal Gibbons

Enloe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while the Crusaders are ranked 57th).

Enloe lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Preston Williams, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Gui Wilkins, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points.

Cardinal Gibbons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Damon Phillips out in front who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. Griffin Cockerham was another key player, going 6 of 7 en route to 16 points and five boards.

Enloe's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-7.

Enloe will face off against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sanderson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will square off against Broughton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cardinal Gibbons is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.7 points per game this season.
