With a playoff win on the line, Columbus rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Miami Stingarees with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Explorers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Columbus got a great performance from Samuel Alonso as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Alonso has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Maximus Alvarez and Rafael Diaz did most of the damage at the plate: Alvarez scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Diaz scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Diaz has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jose Correa, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Columbus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miami only posted an OBP of .190.
The win (which was Columbus' third in a row) raised their record to 22-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Miami, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-8.
As of now, neither Columbus nor the Stingarees have any future games scheduled.
