Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Crosby

Crosby had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Splendora Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Tori Dahnke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Alyssa Gonzalez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Ross, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Crosby's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Splendora, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Crosby is set to take on their familiar foe Kingwood Park at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Splendora will face off against rival West Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
