Baseball Recap: Hersey Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Hersey barely beat Rolling Meadows the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Keegan Luxem, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Rolling Meadows off the board. Luxem has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mike Sokan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Charlie Arvanitis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Hersey hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rolling Meadows struck out eight times.

The victory (which was Hersey's third in a row) raised their record to 17-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rolling Meadows, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hersey will venture away from home to face off against Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Fillies/Broncos will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Rolling Meadows, they are taking a road trip to take on Fremd at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
