Two dominant signal callers in Cam Renfro and Noah Spinks are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Manvel Mavericks will head out to square off against the Summer Creek Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Manvel sitting on six straight wins and Summer Creek on five.
Manvel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Fort Bend Hightower 70-35. The Mavericks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Manvel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenneth Malone Hayes out in front who rushed for 105 yards and three scores on only 13 carries, and also caught one TD. Dante Mayes was in the mix as well, providing the Mavericks with three touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Manvel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 446 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Summer Creek humbled Clear Springs with a 58-14 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Manvel better keep an eye on Tre Brown. He was instrumental in Summer Creek's win, rushing for 86 yards and one score on only five carries, while also picking up 51 receiving yards. Brown's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Benny Easter Jr., who picked up 119 receiving yards and one TD.
Summer Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Marrel Davis, Caleb White, and Anthony Thomas picked up one apiece. White is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Manvel's record is now 8-3. As for Summer Creek, their record now sits at 10-1.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Manvel has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 249.8 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Summer Creek has preferred to attack from the air: they average 287.6 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Thursday? There's only one way to find out.
Manvel was dealt a bruising 49-7 defeat at the hands of Summer Creek in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Mavericks, Blake Thomas (who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 162 yards and three TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
