Last Friday, Veterans Memorial narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tivy 21-19. The victory was just what Veterans Memorial needed coming off of a 54-14 defeat in their prior game.
James Peoples had a dynamite game for Veterans Memorial, rushing for 290 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Peoples was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Clinton Dixon, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Cedar Creek, who are still winless after their ninth match. They took a serious blow against Tivy two weeks ago, falling 42-0. Veterans Memorial's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.5 points per game. As for Cedar Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
