Darien has gone 9-1 against New Canaan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Wave will challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
On Saturday, Darien made easy work of Bridgeport Central and carried off a 3-0 win.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Darien was: they took every set by at least 25 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-0, 25-0, 25-0.
Darien's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ava Sorrells, who had seven aces and three digs, and Cassie Arevalo, who had nine digs and two aces. Those seven aces gave Sorrells a new career-high.
They weren't the only good servers: Darien was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times New Canaan and Stamford had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rams blew past the Black Knights 3-0 on Saturday. The game was the first time the Rams have beaten the Black Knights on their court since October 9, 2021.
New Canaan walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-4.
Darien pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for New Canaan, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Darien took their win against New Canaan when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Wave since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
