The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils pushed their score all the way to 62 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 85-62 loss at the hands of New Hartford. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill has struggled against New Hartford recently, as their match on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Loss or not, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill got some senior leadership from Atticus Roque and Eliijah Donegan. Roque almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks, while Donegan. scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Roque has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times he's played.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for New Hartford, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill will head out on the road to square off against Rome Free Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rome Free Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 games -- so hopefully Vernon-Verona-Sherrill likes a good challenge. As for New Hartford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
