The Hurricane Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Snow Canyon Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Hurricane didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Crimson Cliffs, but they still walked away with a 64-58 victory.
Hurricane's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nizhoni Dominguez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Dominguez is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Whitnie Esplin was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Snow Canyon waltzed into their game on Thursday with 17 straight wins but they left with 18. They walked away with a 66-57 win over Dixie. Given Snow Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Dixie is ranked 46th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Olivia Hamlin, who scored 34 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kelly Howard, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Hurricane's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Snow Canyon, their win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hurricane have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Snow Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hurricane was dealt a bruising 65-31 loss at the hands of Snow Canyon in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hamlin, who scored 28 points along with three steals. Now that Hurricane knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
