Basketball Recap: Ashanti Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gateway Charter over Bishop Verot

If Gateway Charter was feeling good fresh off their 74-22 takedown of Oasis last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gateway Charter Griffins took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop Verot Vikings on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost six in a row.

Several Griffins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashanti Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Jazmyne Trubina was another key player, going 5 for 11 on her way to 10 points.

Gateway Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Bishop Verot, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.

Gateway Charter will head out to square off against Family Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bishop Verot, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Evangelical Christian at 7:00 p.m. Evangelical Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
